Help for general users

The main section of the website comprises six building blocks for e-business: Understanding, Planning, Building, Protecting, Managing and Improving. They have been written to be either looked at one-by-one, or individually according to individual needs and interest.

To see what sub-headings are under each of the six main sections, move the mouse cursor over any of the headings on the left-hand side of the screen and the sub-topics will appear (this only works in the graphic version of the site - in the text only version, you click on headings and sub-headings only). Move the mouse cursor to any sub-topic and simply click on it to explore that topic.

Practical advice

Users of this website will find that many sections have a sub-section entitled "What to do". These provide users with practical advice about what to do to address or implement the suggestions and information provided in the section.

Text-only version

This website has been designed to be fast and easy to use because we know people in business want quick access to information. However, if you have a particularly slow connection, or just want the site to be even faster, select the "text only" version of the site. This can be done by selecting "text only" on the very first screen you see when entering this website or via the "text only site" button at the bottom of every page.

Printer-friendly version

We imagine that many users of the website will want a printed version of the information provided, so we have provided a printer-friendly button on every page that provides a perfect printout no matter what printer or computer you are using.

Moving through and around the website

In the graphic version of the site you will notice a horizontal strip near the top of the screen displaying the name of the section of the site you are in.  Immediately below that strip is another form of sign-posting showing where you are in the site and how to retrace your steps back to the home page. For example, if you had chosen Building from the home page then selected Technical Issues you would see the following: home>building>technical issues.
This tells you exactly where you are in the site and by clicking on any of the headings you can retrace your steps or return to the home page.

We have provided a Back and Next button at the bottom of the page for users who want to work their way through a section in the order suggested. A BACK button at the bottom of every screen takes you back to the previous screen you visited. A "Next topic in this section>" link appears where appropriate to take you on to the next topic in that section.

Searching for information in the website

If you want to find a topic or word in the website and can't see it immediately in the topic listings, you can search for it by using the search feature that appears on every page. Click inside the search box and type the word or phrase, then either press the ENTER key on the keyboard or click on the GO button.

Case studies

Over eighty case studies are included in the website, located in the Resources section.

The case studies are organised into industry type and location. You can search for them in a number of ways:

  1. use the drop-down menus to select EITHER industry type OR location
  2. use the drop-down menus to select industry type AND location
  3. if you know the name of a case study, then you can use the Search feature on the website to find it.

To view the case studies you will need a free program on your computer called Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you are unsure whether this is on your computer, simply try downloading a case study. If you have problems, then return to this page and click on the link above to Adobe's website where you can download the free software onto your computer. You will need to follow Adobe's instructions as to how to do this.
